I never claim to be a great photographer, but in the past week I have captured some images worth sharing.
First and foremost, it doesn't take much to be able to catch a painted water turtle out of water. Just about any elite-level predator can do that (of which Bailey is the best of the best). But it takes real tenacity to bark at said turtle for a solid hour and a half as it slowly inches its way across the yard.
What I pulled out of my back pocket at the end of Sunday's stage last weekend at the Giro De Ville.
Not a great day. And yet, the greatest of days. And still, today, I am waterborne parasite free. It's hard to complain when you're in Montebello.
Some Preddy Singletrack construction, and some Pretty Singletrack. don't try this at home, kids. but a 2000 pound machine on a steep sideslope is nicely offset by a 200 lb ballast. helmets mandatory. keep hands and feet inside the car at all times. etc.
The difference is a simple matter of before and after. The race for trailwork grunt of the year is heating up, and the results are simply luscious.
And last but not least, we ran up on this fatty on the Jeep Road right below Bald Mtn today. He went from 3.5 feet of snake crossing the doubletrack to a compact coil of muscle, venom, and fury in the blink of an eye.
Brownie Crit this week? Options abound, and the people demand a rally.
Danny O. said something about a hill climb up the nasty steepness called Brokenback.
And Blue Ridge School is hosting a Wed ride anyway. Does the Super-D loom on the horizon? Will Cunningham even have a functional ride by Wednesday? Or how about a sampling of the short track that SVBC built over at Massanutten? The call is out for some wheels to break that in on Wednesday before the pros get here for the Hoo-Ha.
Stay tuned for details.
Keep it narrow, but keep it dirty.
